Movies, Food & Books - Weekend Recap Edition

Every upcoming weekend I have something, so this past weekend I wanted to do absolutely nothing, and it was exactly what I needed. I caught up on a lot. I cleaned. I movied myself out:

It wasn't memorable to me.

I'm a huge Vince Vaughn fan!! I thought this movie was a silly kind of cute. (Best of the 3)

The ending was unexpected to me, which is hard to accomplish in a chic flick.

It's nice not to have a jam packed TV lineup, because it gives me a chance to see all the movies I've been putting to the side (obviously). From my Redbox list, I still want to see Dear John, Valentine's Day, Sherlock Holmes, The Blindside and Up (both for the second time). I also really want to watch Beauty and the Beast, but Disney locked it in their vault again, so I don't know how to get it on DVD!!

I cooked a lot. I made my favorite Summer Pizza on our new Pampered Chef Pizza Stone (Thanks, Mom - This was our treat for watching my parent's dogs). This pizza stone really did do wonders on the crust... I'm sold for life. I also made this for a cakewalk and for us:

Ours was in loaf form. I just felt the need for this one to be a circle to give it more of a cake feel ; ) This is a delicious recipe, and I recommend it. I also made Ina Garten's Shrimp Salad:

It was okay, but I would have rather had McDonald's McNuggets... so... I did. Speaking of chicken... I mentioned I was trying Chic-Fil-A's Spicy Chicken Sandwich here. It was nice that Chic-Fil-A let you add pepper jack cheese, lettuce and tomato for free on top of an already free sandwich, but I will say that I will be sticking with the original. I wasn't really a fan, but Hank loved it. To each their own!

I played at the pool all weekend, so I had some time to read. I finally finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I'm looking forward to discussing it at Book Club next week, because I really want to know what I missed or that someone got a lot out of it, and I want them to share their excitement for this book with me. Perhaps it is because I have so many books on queue that I am excited about reading, I was in a hurry to finish this one. I was just not that into.

On another note, I am currently reading A Little Bit Wicked, and I love it. Kristin is conversational, too cute and it's a great read with a lot of fun quotes and lessons:

"Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion. Laughter is life-giving. It makes you breathe."

"[It's] far less embarrassing to learn from the mistakes of others. Feel free to apply this in your own life as needed."

"I never make decisions that angle for advance or grab for money; it's always about the fun factor, the challenge, the joy of working with people I like and respect."

"Keep on keepin' on."

[People said] I was too nice to be true. That's an image problem I've been aware of since eighth grade , when a girl named Jill cornered me in the girls' bathroom and said, "Why are you so freakin' happy all the time? It makes me want to beat you up."

"You do your best out of respect for yourself, not to make someone else feel less, and when you know you've done well, no one can take that away from you."

"I'd decided if you can't win it by being yourself, it was never yours to begin with."

More to come... I am only halfway through!
