Weekend Recap (Two weekends ago!)

We woke up to a snowy sky on Saturday morning. The snowflakes were huge and so pretty.

I made my way to Chapel Hill to enjoy Carolina basketball with my friend Laura.

On the way back, I made a stop by Anthropologie. I love checking out their latest bits. I really liked these cards: i heart you • you look radishing • mint to be (perfect kitchen prints).

Hank and I met up with friends by night to see Ricky Young. He's from Raleigh / now lives in Nashville. He debuted Skin, and I predict it will be next summer's anthem.

Sunday was Dad Day! We celebrated my Dad's birthday, and instead of buying presents, I made sure to plan a fun-filled day. We started with brunch at Jessee's in Carrboro, and I am hooked. They have awesome espressos and a great breakfast burrito: egg, potato, white cheddar, salsa, avocado plus chorizo (fresh from Cliff's Meat Market right down the street).

Next up, we made our way to Top of the Hill's Distillery where we sipped on beer, toured about, learned a lot and sampled their organic vodka and whiskey. As an entrepreneurship minor, I so love the fire inside an entrepreneur, and it's great to see their successes.

We capped off the night with a trip to Raleighwood for dinner and a movie. Great day!

Roses are Pink

I've always loved Valentine's Day. It's pink, sweet and all things heart - my favorites.

This year Hank and I cooked our way to a savory feast. We exchanged sweet gifts, sipped on champagne cocktails and indulged in tasty treats. ...Yep, I love this day. Hank outdid himself on the scallops with a hazelnut vinaigrette. We paired these with lobster, twice-baked potatoes and prosciutto-wrapped asparagus. Plus dessert? Stop yourself, Valentine's Day.

A Perfect Blend

I went to a fun wedding shower over the weekend for one of my college roommates, Kristyn. Kristyn is a true coffee lover so her shower was to the theme of Love is Brewing

The house was gorgeous, and the shower theme delightful. We enjoyed home-brewed coffee or cappuccinos plus mimosas. The lunch was cafe style, so hello, Panera and Amelies

I love watching people open presents, so I enjoyed lots of that while sipping out of my cute personalized mug. We played traditional shower staples - toilet paper bride (my team won!), 20 questions (with video responses from the groom) and a game where each person writes a blind sentence to create an entertaining story about the bride - mad libs.

High school gals above, and for favors, milk & dark chocolate covered coffee beans (yum!).

Wings & All That

Oh, there you are Super Bowl photos...

My Sunday was filled with prop bets, quarters, wings and guacamole.

(And a really cute guy in a jersey.) Go Team!

Hair Talk - Take Two

I'm always shampoo bouncing, but I still noticed I had shampoo residue built up in my hair. My hair was generally feeling heavy in the back when it just wanted to be free. My hairdresser shared a trick with me awhile back, and I finally put it to use this past week. Well... It was grand! You simply put one or so tablespoons of baking soda in the palm of your hand - a substantial amount relative to your hair length - then add your shampoo to make a paste. Really work this into your hair, rinse and voila, after I dried my hair, it felt so light. It's recommended that this is done once each week. {Hair Talk - Take One}

Fall in Love for Life

My previous post was from Fall in Love for LifeI just finished this book, and it's great. It's simple yet so perfect. I learned a lot of sound advice, and I really got to know this sweet couple - I had tears at the end. I found myself dog-earing pages so I could remember to go back to them later for inspiration or a simple reminder. I highly recommend this book, and what a fantastic gift this would make too. I love that my friend Elle is reading this as well, and she has some great ideas for how to make this book into a sweet valentine. Enjoy!
