Two years ago today I graduated from UNC on my birthday & Mother's Day. It rained and rained and thus our graduation speaker did not exit the car. Our commencement went down in UNC history as the shortest ever. We worked four years for this?
Over the weekend I attended UGA's Commencement.
It was lovely. The most lovely part of all was that I heard an amazing graduation speaker. Finally.
Alton Brown's speech was the graduation speech I never had. It was perfect. I had the following takeaways:
1. Be yourself. Don't be a second rate version of someone else.
2. Marry forever!!
3. Don't carry around too much "stuff" including (most of all) debt.
4. Life is short. It goes by fast. Make it everything you want it to be.
5. Regret is worthless.
6. Don't miss the big picture in life. Sometimes you need to take a step back. When you take this step back, it just may be when you realize your calling.
7. No job is a waste of time. It's not the job that makes the person, it's the person that makes the job.
8. Steer clear of the chicken fingers. You know they are not fingers. (This one was a funny addition because he is a foodie).
Love life.
